Last weekend I lifted my nose from the grindstone just long enough to see that the
Wildlife Rescue Center at the end of my street was
hosting an 'open house'.
Sensing this was a rare opportunity (and it was, as this is a yearly event) I drove straight ahead, instead of turning onto my lane……
And my reward was…..
meeting Mister
and
the largest of it's species,
this Ferruginous Hawk
 Mr. Horned Owl
a group of terrifically knowledgable and dedicated volunteers,
and an amazingly talented teenager…
who gave me permission to photograph her sketchbook.
Leaving this place left me feeling uplifted
 and filled with
Joy
and somehow lighter, richer and secure
in knowing there are much more important things going on in this world
 than my little project

encounters with the fiercest of birds are amazing, aren't they? i'm glad you had this opportunity, and that teen, WOW!
ReplyDeleteThey are, even when they are injured ;-( The Barn and the Great Horned owls were hit by cars. It's hard to imagine the accidents or the rescue. I'm glad I got to meet them too.
DeleteGrand! Oh my son has a friend who rescues and raises big birds. Out near you somewhere. I should find out more... since I might be living out there soon. ha!
ReplyDeleteIt will be very interesting to see where you end up!
DeleteHawks and owls and falcons, oh my! Nice to have a wildlife center so nearby!
