What happened......

If you recall from here.....

which was almost two months ago...

I had been in quite a funk.

Not knowing quite where to BE.

More than a year and a half ago I made the leap to change my 'place'

and moved from a town in southeast Michigan

to

the middle of nowhere New Mexico.

And boy was I blessed to be deposited in a tiny town and a tiny house,

that held me in quiet, peace and friendship

And you would think that would make me 'happy'....

but as time went on.....

I was drawn more and more to Albuquerque, an hour and a half from my little place

where I found a more expansive environment to create and commune.

And although the scenic drive between here and there is stunning,

the packing up week after week wore on me.

I felt like I was being pulled up by my roots every time I had to begin my drive again.....

So I began to look for a place to BE in the city.

And NO NO NO

With all of my searching.....I could not find one

and was entirely STUCK

So what did I do to move the energy?

I began to clear clutter.

Mainly the clutter that came part and parcel with my densely furnished casita.....

This is a longer story and I wish I had posted on it,  however the energy began to move so fast I could not keep up with it!

Within days of clearing clutter at home.....

I moped into my 'new' space at the metals studio.....

which changed from

this.....

to

this.

and I learned just then that the studio across the hall

which was

 this.....

was waiting for a new tenant.....

and now

it is

this.

My new space.

I've been busy.

For the very very very best advice on how and why to clear clutter

follow the work of Karen Kingston

who has revised her great little book

(of course this is always a work in progress...)

  1. Congratulations! I am headed to Santa Fe tomorrow a.m. -- the SAQA Conference begins there on Thursday afternoon at The Lodge and runs till Sunday mid-day. I am flying into and out of Albuquerque...The time is likely not right for a link up but just to let you know there will be art quilters and surface designers all over The Lodge from April 25-28...and touring around Santa Fe...and onward to Albuquerque and environs.

May your passion, gift and blessing link up with those of us at the conference...through the ether...all the best for your new space!

  3. You speak of some interesting insights here. Food for thought for me. I am always thinking about re-locating. But maybe I too need to do more soul/clutter searching. Thanks.

    1. None of this is easy Roberta.....there is work to do both inside and out. I believe our lives are meant to be expansive, not contractive. I have to say though, I have never felt so expansive as I did moving my landlord's stuff (she is a collector) out of my house. In doing that and listening to Karen's book, I realize there are many more things in my life that don't serve me. And I realize it's hard for artists to declutter....there is so much interesting visual 'stuff' that distracts us. I am so glad I've made these moves. I would have always wondered what 'might have been' had I not.

    1. Kathyd, I don't know how long you've been following my blog, but I left a VERY cluttered studio back in Detroit. I was also very very unhappy there and there were obvious reasons (a major life upset), but now I'm realizing perhaps there were reasons that were not so obvious. One of the things Karen Kingston teaches in her work is that objects and buildings also carry the energy of past owners and past situations that effect us. In other words if there was illness or tumult in the building, that will carry on to us if it's not cleared. Also there are energy patterns that are activated, released or stopped by the placement of objects in your space. Clutter is a main stopper of this energy. The root word of clutter is CLOT. hmmmmm. I love Karen's audio book because you can listen to it, ......while you clear clutter! Blessings on your journey!

  8. Wow

What a beautiful new studio space. I am so HAPPY to read this post.

I too am clearing clutter and feeling so much energy by doing so. Moving out of my beautiful (cluttered) studio into my own home studio again has forced me to re-evaluate and ...clear it out.

So happy for you that you have found this good space, and makes me hopeful that something similar will happen for me.

    Be well.

    1. Thanks Judy. I thought you might relate. As I hit wall after wall I was assured by friends that something better was in the works for me. There is still more sorting and clearing to do as I try to fit into my new space. This process involves my clearing my head as well as my stuff.

I'm happy we are walking this path together ox
