Progress Report.....

This project is continued from here...,

Please excuse the dark photos.

I was up into the night working on this.

I elected,
after making some samples,

to mark Anna's Garden Stencil onto

I can hear Gaia scream......

in my defense, it is a chalk product and will wash out once the stitching is done.

I also (ahem) used a light fabric spray adhesive, which was a 'bit tricky' to work with....
to adhere two layers of fabric for the negative reverse appliqué that I plan to execute
all this to avoid tedious basting and marking.....

this will also wash out.....or so they say
I hope it won't come back to haunt me as I cut away the excess fabric.

next I basted the neck and arm holes to avoid stretching while I stitch the appliqué

and the stitching begins.....

  1. I made a skirt with the same pattern last summer. It took me a good week to finish. A dress is a completely different story.... lots of meditative stitching!!! Looks good. I'm sure it will be beautiful.
    Big hugs

    1. A WEEK??!!! You win the award for stitching Anna's Garden! I expect stitching this one will take a very long time. Please note my friend Liselotte below....you are both in the same country! Isn't life grand??? Hugs to you OX

  2. My goodness, you certainly make your images all up close and personal... we can see the textures and stitching that way.. and happy stitching too.

  3. Oh you have the same stiches to do! But Annas garden is quite good to work, I "hate" a little bit the tulips... took me one weeks evenings for quarter of skirt. I like to work "watching" TV.

    1. Yes, the 'tulips' are small, but I'm looking forward to working them....spring is coming after all. I will use the doubled strong thread that Natalie sells. Stitching 1/8 inch 'inside' the markings and then cut away 1/8 inch outside the marks. The result will be the 'reverse negative' appliqué shown in her book Alabama Studio Sewing + Design, page 99. I expect to watch a lot of movies and documentaries since football is over!

    2. So you will do different. I stitch on marking lines and will cut away 1/8 inch inside.

First thunder outside - spring is definitevely arrived! Good night!

  4. I was thinking about making some of her clothes and using my own stencils, I like your technique for transferring the marks.

    1. i think that is a GREAT idea! I had ideas of doing that when I first took her workshop....dunno what happened in the mean time. But yes...I'd love to see what you make. Personally I'm not crazy about fabric 'paint'....so I went out to search for an alternative.
