An Island Apart...............

We flew a very short flight to Tiwi in a very old, very small plane piloted by a very young man......

The Tiwi People live on Bathurst Island which is separated by a river from Melville Island to it's east, Australia's second largest island after Tazmania in the South.  It is largely uninhabited....

The Tiwi's are mainly known in the Indigenous art world for their artwork of fine crosshatching and dots........it encompasses carvings, paintings, pottery and fabric.......

We arrived to find the ladies painting...........

And the men baking bread...........

There was a demonstration of face painting........

A little dance......and a smoke ceremony where we were Blessed with Good Spirits.............

This was our guide, Rollie......Rollie's son is the small boy in the movie Australia....Rollie has his hands full.

He taught us of the Tiwi culture which is about strict rules and codes of conduct.  The Tiwi people seem very very happy.

After the ceremony they took us shopping.....

No pictures allowed....go figure.....

And then to lunch.........

By a crystal clear pool............

With more time.............

To Reflect.............

What a difference a day makes.  There couldn't be more difference between two Indigenous Cultures.......
